No trend exists in a vacuum. The new minimalism drew its inspiration from 1950’s Italy and not least from the American Case Study Project, a series of experimental houses built in the decades after World War II. The early 2000s saw the dawn of a radical new design. In the space of a century, the kitchen has been transformed from a preparation area to a living space where the host and hostess hang out with their guests. The new techno kitchens made of composite materials are characterised by minimalism, with smooth surfaces, concealed functions and open-plan solutions.
